For me, this trip to Cuba aimed at a week's rest on the white sands of Varadero but my package also included a few hours sightseeing in Havana before the return flight to Montreal.
Nowhere else would you see this huge image of Che Guevara.
The San Cristobal cathedral is one of Havana's many tourist attractions.
Batista's presidential palace has been transformed into the museum of the revolution. You can see a better picture of it in the travelogue of my 2001 trip here.
I stayed at the Villas Los Delfines which was right on the beach.
It also had a pool and more importantly a rowdy bar and night club where to imbibe excellent Cuban rum and dance away the stress of hard work.
The real attraction of course was the beautiful Varadero beach and the warm Caribbean ocean, a pleasant change from the below zero freezing climate of Quebec in February.
Below left, there is no better way to get rid of mid winter blues than a week of partying at night and of farniente in the sun during the day.
Below right, no, this is not the US Capitol in Washington, it is Havana's Capitolio Naciónal built in 1929 when the American puppet, dictator Machado ran things here for them.
Seven days makes a big difference and I flew home tanned, rested and with new friends.
