We are now entering Portoferraio on the Island of Elba where Napoleon was exiled in 1814 after his disastrous 1812 Russian campaign.
And here we are inside the well protected harbour of Portoferraio.
Here are the gardens of Villa dei Mulini where Napoleon lived from May 1814 to February 1815 when he escaped to make a comeback that ended with his definitive defeat at Waterloo in June 1815.
After a couple of days we sailed to Viageggio where I left the two Peters and José to visit Pisa and Florence.
I took many photos of the leaning tower and nearby duomo cathedral in Pisa but I can't find any of them so here are two pictures of Florence. This tower is part of the Palazzo Vecchio seen from the alley next to the world famous Uffizi Gallery..
There was so much to see and to learn about Italy's history that I could have stayed a month in Florence.
I wish I had more photos but this picture of the Ponte Vecchio completes my collection for Florence.
My next stop was Venice. I could have stayed there a month also...
