View from the bus between Muscat and Nizwa about 150 km south. Oman is a vast mountanous desert with the occasional oasis like Nizwa.
The Majan Hotel was far from the cendter but the price was reasonable (29 $US).
These ruins of an old fort next to the Majan Hotel had been spared the generalised zealous restoration that has made Oman beautiful but somewhat artificial.
The size of the big parking lot in front of the extensively restored fortifications at the entrance of the town is indicative of the number of tourists that come here in season.

There was even a room for the more traditionnal vendors who prefer to display their produce on the ground.
