What used to be the town of Outremont has become the "arondissement" of Outremont since the fusion of most of the island's municipalities with the city of Montreal. It is a pleasant well to do area with several parks like this one, the Outremont Park.
Since I'm promoting Montreal, here are 8 photos I took of houses in Outremont to give you an idea of this part of the city.
This one is next to the park on the corner of St-Viateur and Outremont.
This one is on McDougal street.
This one is also on McDougal.
These two are on Côte Ste-Catherine.
I'll have to go back to check but I think this one is on Dunlop.
This one should also be on Dunlop.
De Vimy street.
Deacon street.
And here is the northern end of Pratt Park on the corner of Pratt and Van Horne streets.
As the name indicates, the "Sanctuaire" is indeed a sancuary for wealthy residents who wish to avoid the problems associated with owning a house. The complex has boutiques and shops, bars and restaurants, a fittness health club and a clinic. It is a well protected place and I suspect that some people living here never go out in the city where they could be exposed to meeting ordinary people like me.
Westmount and the Town of Mount-Royal are also prised for their snob value. I'll take some pictures of those places to fill up this page if I find time someday.
The 10 Westmount houses I show here are all on "The Boulevard", a busy thoroughfare in upper Westmount. This is the first one.
Outremont is mostly francophone and Westmount is mostly anglophone.
And the second.
This is number three.
And No. 4.
No. 5.
No. 6.
No. 7.
No. 8.
No. 9.
And finally, house number 10.
The Town of Mount-Royal is another well to do area but it is more mixed, anglophones, francophones and allophones. Six more pictures of houses should be enough to give you a good idea of the place. This one is on Laird blvd
The second is on Geneva Avenue.
No. 3. is on Stanstead crescent
No. 4. on de Dieppe.
No. 5 is on Laird blvd,
and so is number six.
Now that I have shown you where some of the well to do live, let's go visit "Le Plateau" where I live.
