Here is a rough breakdown of my 2004 winter budget followed by detailed transport costs and a list of the lodgings I used. In the winter of 2004 I travelled 36 540 kilometres to visit 6 countries in 119 days at a total cost of 8 641 $US (73 $/day).

On this trip, I spent 119 nights in 46 different hotels at an overall average cost of 8.68 $US (not counting the 10 nights passed in transit transport or in the homes of friends). I have tried to give you an idea of what to expect of each place in terms of value for your money. An equal sign means an average value for a given price compared to other lodgings in the same country.
