Here is a rough breakdown of my 2002 budget followed by detailed transport costs and a list of the lodgings I used. In 2002 I travelled 54 250 kilometres to visit 20 countries or territories in 109 days at a total cost of 9 500 $US (87 $/day).

On this trip, I spent 96 nights in 39 different hotels at an overall average cost of 15.00 $US (not counting the 13 nights passed in transit transport or in the homes of friends). My accommodation expenses averaged 15.00 $US in Hawai, 31.45 $US in the Pacific islands north of the equator, 9.36 $US in Australia and 9.62 $US in the southern Pacific islands. I have tried to give you an idea of what to expect of each place in terms of value for your money. An equal sign means an average value for a given price compared to other lodgings in the same country. A " + " sign means more value for your money than the average in that country and a " - " sign means less. |
